Celebrations and Observation of Important Days

At SEED Kanyashram, Malkangiri, each academic year is enriched with vibrant celebrations of cultural festivals, national and state events, and observances of important international days. These activities nurture joy, cultural pride, awareness, and a sense of responsible citizenship among tribal girl students.

Beyond academics, SEED Kanyashram emphasizes holistic development through diverse co-curricular and life-enriching activities:

Weekly Yoga sessions to improve mental focus, peace of mind, and physical fitness.
SUPW (Socially Useful Productive Work), aligned with the Meikirch Model, involves tailoring, silviculture, and kitchen gardening.
Health Cabinets, where a student “health minister” and peer health educators monitor and report health issues to school authorities.
Sports and physical activities, including volleyball, badminton, skipping rope, and cycling.
Recreational facilities such as television, audio, merry-go-round, see-saw, sliding zone, and sandpit for joyful play.
Life skills education for adolescent girls, with guidance on personal hygiene, menstrual health, and sanitation practices.

Annual celebrations of cultural, national, religious, and seasonal festivals strengthen students’ identity, cultural pride, and civic values, ensuring an all-around growth experience.

National Days

Republic Day Celebration

Independence Day (15 August) and Republic Day (26 January) at SEED Kanyashram are celebrated with great enthusiasm through flag hoisting, patriotic songs, rallies, speeches, and cultural performances.

The celebrations begin with the flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by a spirited village rally. Students, along with guests from local PRIs, actively participate in these events, spreading messages of unity, harmony, and patriotism in the community.

Through these observances, the students honor the spirit of the nation-saluting India, where each bud blooms in its true colours and every day is a celebration of unity and synthesis.

Religious and Cultural Festivals

Ganesh Puja Celebration

Students of SEED Kanyashram actively engage in a wide range of cultural programmes, both within the school and on district-level platforms.

At the district-level cultural fest, Malyabanta Mahotsava, Class IV and V students presented a vibrant group dance performance that received high praise from the District Committee. Such participations enhance student morale and foster appreciation for traditional and folk art forms.

Over the years, the school has earned several accolades:

2010: Secured 1st Prize in a district-level cultural meet among tribal schools.
2013: Invited by the District Administration to perform at the state-level cultural programme (14 February).
2014: Six students attended creative training sessions in toy making, coir craft, drawing, and painting at Bhubaneswar (15 February).
2016: Twelve students showcased talents in the district-level Rainbow talent show organized by the District Child Protection Unit, Malkangiri (6 March).

The school also celebrates religious and cultural festivals with enthusiasm, including Ganesh Puja, Saraswati Puja, Diwali, Holi, and New Year’s Day. Students actively participate by installing idols, decorating the campus with flowers and rangolis, performing traditional dances and songs, and sharing festive meals. These events promote spiritual values, unity, and cultural understanding among students and staff.

Children's Day, Teachers' Day & Gandhi Jayanti

At SEED Kanyashram, national and thematic days are celebrated to foster creativity, gratitude, and moral values among students.

Children’s Day (14 November): Marked by drawing, dancing, speech competitions, and games, allowing students to express themselves creatively.
Teachers’ Day (5 September): Celebrated with heartfelt cultural performances, speeches, and handmade cards presented to teachers. Educators were felicitated for their invaluable role in nurturing the students’ growth and development.
Gandhi Jayanti (2 October): Observed with bhajans, floral tributes, and speeches, followed by a campus-wide and community cleanliness drive. Students engaged in art and Jhoti competitions while reflecting on Gandhiji’s principles of truth and non-violence, committing themselves to building a clean and just society.

These celebrations not only strengthen cultural and moral values but also provide opportunities for students to develop leadership, creativity, and social responsibility.

Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas

Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas Celebration

Tribal Heritage Day was celebrated to honour and preserve the rich traditions, history, and identity of the tribal community. The programme featured vibrant folk dances, soulful traditional songs, and an engaging quiz competition on tribal history and culture. Students also participated in a plantation drive within the campus, reinforcing pride in their heritage while promoting environmental responsibility.

Ganesh Puja & Saraswati Puja

At SEED Kanyashram, students celebrated Lord Ganesh Puja and Goddess Saraswati Puja with devotion and cultural fervour. The celebrations reflected the belief that Lord Ganesh bestows wisdom and removes obstacles, while Goddess Saraswati blesses knowledge, music, art, and culture. On the auspicious day of Saraswati Puja, students and teachers gathered to seek her blessings. The school was adorned with vibrant flowers and rangolis, and participants dressed in traditional attire. The rituals were followed by cultural performances, and the day concluded with a joyful community feast, fostering unity and reverence for tradition.

Diwali- Festival of Lights

Diwali CelebrationThe school was beautifully decorated with rangolis and diyas, creating a festive atmosphere. Students presented cultural performances that conveyed the deeper message of Diwali-the victory of light over darkness and the triumph of good over evil.



Holi- Festival of Colours

Holi CelebrationStudents and staff celebrated with natural colours, music, and dancing, promoting safe practices and fostering community bonding. The joyful occasion reflected unity, brotherhood, and shared happiness.

Raksha Bandhan & Tree Plantation Drive- Spreading Love and Responsibility

Students marked Raksha Bandhan by tying rakhis, creating vibrant rangolis, and sharing sweets. The celebrations were complemented by a tree plantation drive, which promoted environmental awareness while deepening their connection with nature and the community.

International Women's Day

Women's Day Celebration

International Women's Day was celebrated by women with crowds of villagers at the SEED Kanyashram at S. Tandapalli. Women self-help group members, mothers of our children, participated and played a rally and skit on women's empowerment on the date of 8 March of each year, with content on dowry, women's trafficking, and female feticide.


World Water Days

SEED observed World Water Day at its Kanyashram premises in S. Tandapalli, one of the most water-scarce, drought-prone, and high-temperature-affected regions of Malkangiri district, also facing the effects of climate change. The event brought together around 62 participants, including local youth, women self-help group members, elected PRI representatives (Sarpanch, Ward Members), SHG leaders, school teachers, Anganwadi workers, and health workers.

The programme ran from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., featuring interactive sessions led by resource persons Mr. Dhirendra Kumar Mohanty, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Moharana, and others. Key topics covered included:

Water is Life – the importance of water in sustaining life.
Water Conservation – strategies to prevent wastage.
Pollution Prevention – controlling contamination of surface and groundwater sources.
4R Approach – restore, reuse, recharge, and recycle household water.
Rainwater Harvesting – methods and benefits.
Forest Preservation – plantation drives and protection of degraded forests.
Community Engagement – linking water, sanitation, and plantation initiatives with livelihood resilience through active collaboration with PRIs.

The event strengthened awareness and collective responsibility for water management, environmental protection, and sustainable livelihoods in the community.

Welcome and Farewell Ceremony

Each year welcome for freshers and a farewell function is held for outgoing Class VIII students. It includes cultural performances, speeches, and certificate distribution, reflecting on their educational journey and growth at SEED Kanyashram.

Annual Sports and Games

Annual Sports Meet

The Annual Sports Meet at SEED Kanyashram nurtures a spirit of fitness, discipline, and friendly competition among students. The event features a variety of athletic and recreational activities, including the 100m race, sack race, spoon-and-marble race, skipping race, biscuit race, musical chairs, long jump, high jump, shot put, and traditional games such as puchi.

Winners are recognised during the annual function, while every participant is celebrated to promote inclusion, teamwork, and sportsmanship. By valuing effort as much as achievement, the Sports Meet encourages students to challenge themselves, support one another, and enjoy the joy of participation.

Together with the school’s cultural and spiritual events, these athletic activities play a vital role in the holistic development of students helping them grow into confident, well-rounded individuals who are deeply rooted in tradition yet open to the possibilities of the future.
