"SEED" stands for Social Education for Environment and Development. It is a secular, non-political organisation dedicated to serving the poor, deprived, and marginalised communities, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
Founded in 1991 by a group of development practitioners and social activists, SEED emerged from a shared vision to uplift the remote district of Malkangiri through a unified approach to development.
The organisation is managed by a blend of experienced grassroots and seasoned development professionals with deep expertise in tribal issues, alongside young and energetic community workers who possess first-hand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities in tribal areas.
SEED’s initiatives focus on education, health, livelihood, environmental protection, and women’s empowerment, with special emphasis on the development and upliftment of tribal girls and women.
SEED was registered under FCRA (number 105090006) in 2005, and is registered under the State Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.
Our Mission :
Provide quality care to the people of Odisha.
Provide community education about eye diseases.
Study the prevention and cure of eye diseases.
Provide affordable services to the poor.
End blindness among rural & tribal peoples.
Increase productivity through blindness prevention.
Our Target:
In central Odisha, 57% of the population survives on just ₹12 per day (about ₹ 0.25)
Every year, over 100,000 people lose their sight, with cataracts accounting for 63% of these cases.
Access to healthcare is a major challenge—most medical facilities are concentrated along the coast, leaving the people of central and western Odisha underserved and often without timely treatment.
